Adidas Watch
My beater watch for 10 years |
This watch was a present from my cousin to me for being the best man in his wedding. He paid around 120 euros more than 20 years ago so it was an expensive watch back then (for my budget at least).
I can't find a lot of information regarding this watch. What I have found so far is the in the late 90s and early 00s - Adidas sourced some cases from Timex and used Miyota movement for their watches. Mine is using the Miyota OS10 movement and has been accurate all those years. The case seems to be chrome plated brass and shows signs of wear - actually it started showing signs of wear early on so I don't think it is a high quality plating.
I used this watch for about a decade as my everyday watch. One day I realised that one of the chronograph hands went missing and that the watch was not working. I stopped using it for sometime and the it reappeared a couple of years ago when I was going though a box with old stuff.
Looking on the internet, it seems that the loose hand is a common fault with the Miyota OS10 - that is because the battery is just behind it and if you push the battery too hard in, the hand gets popped out. This has been rectified now, it was stuck below the hour hand on my watch.
The Miyota OS10 movement |
This is quite a heavy watch and quite chunky in dimensions - the case is square 40mm x 40 mm including the crown and buttons. It does wear smaller than it looks though - it is the chunky bracelet that makes it look bigger than it is. Ah also, the bracelet is a proper hair depillator.
Another complain I have is the fact that you need to adjust the reset position very often. It is not a big we as it only takes a few seconds to do but I just mention it.
I have partially retired this watch. I might put it on if any work is needed in the garden but it doesn't get a lot of wrist time. I am keeping it due to the personal story behind it but overall, I am not a person who will buy clothes brand watches. But the OS10 is a nice, reliable and battery efficient movement so if you come across a watch with it inside -and the price is right- then I can recommend it.
